Noaralot was first produced by Backstares Theatre Company, Port Noarlunga, South Australia, in August 1987.

Backstairs used a cast of fifteen young people in the production.

Ages ranged from twelve to twenty. Cast list and possible

doubling follows.

Backstairs used an up front style of acting which particularly

suited this type of play. Nothing was hidden from the audience

and all actors remained on stage for the duration of the play.

They sat in a semi circle and watched the action when not

performing.

Costumes were made from plastic garbage bags (designer models!)

for the Upmarket Silvertails and from Hessian bags for the

Downmarket Deadbeats. All props were obviously props.

Noaralot has had productions in three states of Australia and has

had a second production in Adelaide at Westminster College.

Westminster added a musical score and produced the play as a musical.

Once upon a time there was a town called Noaralot.

In Noaralot there were two gangs. One gang was called

the Downmarket Deadbeats. The other gang was called

the Upmarket Silvertails. The Upmarket Silvertails were

distinguished by having pieces of plastic. The Downmarket

Deadbeats were distinguished by not having pieces of plastic.

The Downmarket Deadbeats were distinguished by other

things as well... and so were the Upmarket Silvertails
